Eighth graders, for example, would read five entire novels: — “Animal Farm”, “Antigone”, “Great Expectations”, “The Odyssey”, and “Night” — with an additional twelve works as pairings, such as excerpts of the Federalist Papers and “David and Goliath” from the biblical book of 1 Samuel.
