A recent report from the National Association of Manufacturers lists maintaining a quality workforce as the top business concern for 74.9% of those surveyed. This lack of developed technical skills in our current market is a greater concern given it is predicted that by 2030 US manufacturing will have 2.1 million jobs unfilled. To address this budding crisis, we need strong partnerships between education systems and industries.

In the 2022-23 school year, Georgia had over 13,000 employers participate in work-based learning programs resulting in 27,594 placements for these employers. The Director of Pratt & Whitney Columbus Engine Center, Tom Bode, remarked on their involvement as an early adopter of these local programs, “It’s been a great help for us. Now, when we go to ask for expansions, it gives us the ability to say we have local talent we developed, a workforce here that’s willing to step up and become part of the aviation business." 

These partnerships are successful because they are built upon a foundation of mutual benefit. Schools gain valuable resources and expertise and industry partners benefit from developing a pipeline of future employees who are trained and ready to contribute.
